On March 23, 2020, SGeT group has unveiled a new specification on the latest SMARC (Smart Mobility Architecture) standard, SMARC 2.1. This is the fourth version of a highly-popular edge-type module suitable for various industrial and telecom applications.
There are really few changes between the previous technical specification and the new one, which explains why the specification got just a tiny increase in the version index. Here are the main changes:
|SMARC 2.0 (March 23, 2017)||SMARC 2.1 (March 23, 2020)|
|Gigabit Ethernet, x2||Gigabit Ethernet, x4|
|GPIO, x12||GPIO, x14|
|MIPI CSI, x2||MIPI CSI, x4|
|eSPI||eSPI / QSPI|
From now on the actual SMARC suggests up to four MIPI CSI (Camera Serial Interface) camera interfaces to satisfy the growing interest to the embedded vision and machine vision in general. Has to be noted that all the modules developed under the restrictions of the specification SMARC 2.1 are supposed to work correctly with any carrier board supporting SMARC 2.0.
